The Paint Movement and Fox Jaws

West vs. East Cross Canada Tour

Fox Jaws head fakes and goes East. Paint Movement goes low and comes outta the pockets West. Same fight, same game, both Nevado label bands are on tour this June and tearing up Canada's opposite shoulders, city and town, venue by venue. We'll be sending updates from the road of our respective fight to win hearts and minds along our route 'cross our lady Canada's lovely waist...

thank you

British Columbia Is Awesome.

June 14th, 2009 by The Paint Movement

Day 15: This is day fifteen of our West vs. East Tour and in the past seven days there has been so much beauty to take in there has just been no  time to write about it.  We decided to soak it all in and enjoy our stay out here the best we can while we have the time off in between shows.  One thing that has been absolutely amazing is the hospitality people have been showing all along the way.  After playing a  really cool show at Voodoo’s in Penticton (Look out for “We are the City” = wicked stuff)  we drove 15 minuets  out of Kelowna into the mountains to stay the night at a friend of a friends place.   Waking up to the landscape in front of us was just (Fox Jaw) dropping, I don’t think anyone was prepared for what we saw.    After breakfast and chat we moved on our way out to Victoria.  We stopped in Vancouver and met up  with  few members of Yukon Blonde who graciously let us stay the night with them and rest up before our show in Victoria and welcomed us to the  West.  The next day we hopped on the BC ferry and headed into Victoria.  Immediately after leaving the boat we headed to the beach to look out onto the ocean and play some songs.   Leaving this place will be hard.  That night we we’re playing at Logan’s pub (Check out there food it is the cats meow)  Cool little spot that we got to play in.    In an absolutely random way that can’t even be described  we ending staying at James house.  James is a good guy from the band “Great White Sharks”.Thanks James.  The next morning we took the ferry back to Vancouver to meet up with a few friends of  Laura’s who would be housing us for the next few days until the very last show.    Very cool people I must say and  I think I can speak for the entire band when I say This last show is just going to be one for the books.  Thank you for coming on this journey with us all the way across the land we live,  its not over yet but  we just wanted to let people know thanks again for everything, coming out to shows, reading along,  sharing the stage with us, showing support.   This has been quite the experience so far.Take care and be Well. LoftmanHabitat KelownaFieldsofgreenrockedDrivingthroughKevin at Voodoo’sWhere we Stayedwherewestayed.jpgexsandallies.jpgwhereweare.jpgFor more pictures and videos not posted here, check us out on Facebook.

Home, Pt. II

June 9th, 2009 by Fox Jaws

After a partial night’s sleep in my own bed, a day of work, and a couple of burritos I think I’m ready to throw some numbers out, and lay down some (likely trite) reflections on the recent past.

First, by the numbers:

26 Records Purchased (by me), including:

  • The First (Self-Titled) Constantines
  • Springsteen’s ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’
  • The Allman Brothers Band ‘Brothers and Sisters’
  • Rod Stewart/Faces Live: Coast to Coast, Overture and Beginners

9 Days

8 Shows

5 Provinces

5132.5 Km

15 Bands:

  • Birthday Cakes
  • Rival Boys
  • The Paint Movement
  • Ox
  • Paramedics
  • Amos the Transparent
  • Leif Vollebekk
  • Nista
  • Code Pie
  • Daiko
  • Danger Bee’s
  • Holding Up Grants
  • The Stanfields
  • North Lakes

Second, some pontificating and vain reflection:

I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have travelled through 9 of the 10 Canadian provinces; Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon, I promise to come as soon as I can. The landscapes and natural beauty are destined to impress, both with their innate features, and with the stark contrasts between them. More impressive, to me at least, is the unifying theme of friendliness. The further we got from home, the friendlier the people became; from smiles, to directions, the sharing of kind words, food, and drink, the opening of homes and the benefit of the doubt given.

Over the past several days I have rediscovered parts of the love of music that I had forgotten I once struggled with, leapt into, and let enfold me. Without trying to impose some thin, homogeneous idea of the ‘human condition’, to see others engaged with music, with one another, and with the best interests of a community made me deeply happy. I won’t pretend to understand the motivations or desires of all of those individuals, but the respect and consideration accorded the fellow actors in the various plays that we partook in gives me hope for greater deeds yet to come.

Finally,

Dear Paint Movement, at present I have had two showers in the past twenty four hours, and have not driven an automobile for the same. Furthermore, I have ready access to multiple pairs of clean socks, a washroom that does not require me to pester someone to pull over, and two pillows, a mattress, and a blanket – to myself. See you on the 19th gentlemen, please bring Laura back alive and sane.

Cheers,

Evan

Home

June 8th, 2009 by Fox Jaws

We are (at least, I am) home after a rather grueling drive from Charlottetown. No time now for a proper post, but rest assured we will be devoting all of our efforts to relating stories, posting pictures, and brazenly taunting the Paint Movement with tales of fresh socks, our own beds, and regular bathing.

good morrow,

Evan

p.s. for those concerned parties, I am in quite good health.

GREETINGS FROM KELOWNA

June 8th, 2009 by The Paint Movement

Flat earth, just like it was before.
Bare as the bodies we were born into, clear as the glass we can see through.  Steady goes the progression of direction.  All that we feel is the bumps in our chest and the pounding of the roads.  The light in our heads turned on, reacted by the switches we control with our thoughts.  Profound as new land yet to be discovered, and as silent as the wind against the sand. Hold up your heart to the light given by the sun so can see what’s really underneath your pulse.  Telephone lines divine nine’s and ten’s that keep us looking back for some means of communication breakdown.  Do we really need to pretend anymore? Do we see all the ghosts in curtains or are they silhouettes of our soul?  Dancing by the fire like Indians as we tell tall tales of fables and false starts.  All that’s left is what’s right or wrong. Bodies of water with steamy eyes cooking looks and writing books as they burn away what should remain.  Four more sets of wheels sprawl the conveyor.  The corridor, is getting longer with more fluorescent lights, all that’s left is what’s right… or wrong ,

here we are , in kelowna, B.C. we just finished playing at Habitat, awesome bar with eco friendly looking chairs . met some cool dudes from a band named ‘ fields of green ‘ check them out, wicked tunes . we left edmonton last night/this morning and made our 10 hour trek out towards where we are now … it was all good, glenn drank some energy shots and got completely wired . funny sight to see him talk and not really understand why hes speaking so fast .  we were all asleep in the backseats and awoke to mountains. GORGEOUS mountains.. as tall as the gods in the sky . clouds hanging by strings . snow on the tree branches as we sped by . absolutley stunning scenery… in fact,  absolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning  sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning sceneryabsolutley stunning scenery.

and then the wheel fell off.

thewheelfelloff.jpg

just after entering b.c. our front right tire decided to be a jerk and fall off. we’re o.k.

glenny called c.a.a and they were there within an hour. the spare we had was way too small to drive with so we parted ways for a bit while laura, jay and chuck went into town to get a proper fitting tire , towing the van . glenn, loftman, and myself had to stay with the non-insured trailer which would’ve cost us $2.50 x 40 km to tow. so  we chilled, had some peanut butter and marmalade ( extremely undefined flavour ) and a couple steam’s and jam’s on the side of the highway looking at the mountains in the horizions with smiles on our faces.

they came back about 2 hrs. later and we continued on to Kelowna . (where we are now) . its amazing to see such great heights all around us…surrounding us with their glorious peaks . it feels like a dream .

now we’re up to date…right ?sitting here in the prestige hotel across from habitat , recollecting ourselves and watching coffee commercials . thinking of what fox jaws is up to … most likely sleeping cause the time change is ridiculous . we’ve all been awake for 24 hours at least.

we have the day off tomorow . possibly going to the water park for 6 dollars…or explore this new found land . definately catching up on much needed sleep … qwerty .

thank you guys for reading and being apart of this adventure … we have a week left of our excursions and we;re going to live it up . paint movement style !!!!!

(  i dont know what paint movement style is )

night yall
